Nokia’s Everyone Connect campaign was based around a new Nokia Messaging solution that lets you email, chat and connect with your favourite social networking sites instantly from your device. This new service was rolled out on three brand new, messaging-centric devices, the Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and the Nokia E5. The question was then posed as to how you use your device to stay connected. The Nokia 5800XM has also just received a new firmware update taking it up to v50.0.005. The new firmware brings many updates and improvements to your Nokia handset, and although there is no official changelog, word has it that this new update comes with preloaded maps data along with Ovi Maps v3.3 with free voice guided turn-by-turn navigation. New firmware updates also contain more general bug fixes and optimizations necessary for the software on your device to perform properly, therefore we recommend you always keep your device up to date. The Nokia E71, Nokia E66 and Nokia E63 have all recently received new firmware updates taking them to v410.21.010. All three devices can now make use of the free voice-guided navigation provided courtesy of Ovi Maps 3.3. Nokia has set up a countdown on an event page tagged as ‘Everyone Connect’. We’re not too sure as to what exactly this countdown may be about, however rumours indicate something to do with messaging, possibly an Ovi Maps/Nokia Messaging integration. Nokia Messaging for Social Networks is a developmental branch of Nokia’s extremely competent, Nokia Messaging Service. With Messaging for Social Networks, Nokia has implemented a great solution connecting both Twitter and Facebook to the Nokia Messaging Client. You can view posts, update your status and comment on messages directly from the application, and as it’s currently still in the Beta phase, more social networks will gradually become available. The CeBIT Global Conferences are underway in Hannover, Germany, and Nokia has kicked off with the revelation of its Cseries portfolio. The Nokia C5 is the first Cseries device to be announced and is designed to cater for those looking for a cheap smartphone with heavy social networking capabilities. If you fit the bill, you will also be delighted to learn that the Nokia C5 is estimated to retail for around £125 before taxes and subsides.
