In this video, Axel Meyer, Head of Nseries Design, talks about the design and experience of a Nokia flagship device and the considerable amount of thought that goes into creating Nseries devices. He talks about what a true flagship represents, from the materials used in the construction of the device to the experience enhancing capabilities of it, he believes the device is truly an extension of you.
As our regular readers are probably aware, we had the Nokia E72 during the unboxing challenge set by WOMWorld, but not only did they send us the handset, they also crammed the Nokia Extra Power DC-11 into the package. Now I’ve personally spent quite a bit of money on portable power in the past, and none of the chargers that I have bought seem to make the cut. The huge selection of connectors, adjustable cords, and all the other gimmickry, just made it a chore to have to pack all these little finicky pieces into one bag to carry around. All I wanted was a simple, reliable and compact solution, and I think I may have just stumbled upon the perfect one.
The Nokia Ovi Suite version 2.1.0.87 has been released for existing Nokia Ovi Suite users. The new update contains many improvements, bug fixes and brings some cool new features. The Nokia Beta Labs started distributing the update to Nokia Ovi Suite last week, and so many of you may already have the latest release. Some new features include ovi.com contacts sync, video transfer and playback and device application updates. There is also support for Mozilla Thunderbird in contacts sync. There has also been a lot work put into increase the general performance of the suite.
When taking a step back from the fast growing mobile devices industry, we can see that technology has progressed far beyond what we initially expected. Mobile phones as we knew them are now a thing of the past as they now pack more than just telephony features. Most mobile handsets now come with many modern standards in terms of features; high quality photo capture and video recording capabilities, turn-by-turn navigation, connectivity choices from Bluetooth to sharing online, and web browsing technologies emulating the desktop experience.
Today we’d like to give you a quick update and let you know that our S60 5th Edition Applications download page has been updated, where you will find a nice, easy to view list of games and apps for your S60 5th Edition device. We will continue to update this page every week if not daily, so make sure you keep popping by. Our Maemo5 Applications section also has a great deal of apps available to download, and is currently being revised in order to provide you with more resources, and make installing applications easier. We also have a S60 3rd Edition Applications section which, to be fair we have neglected a little. Over the next few weeks we will also be updating this section with new applications, so make sure you stay tuned for that.
The Nokia N900 is a great device for multitasking. With its 600 MHz processor and Maemo 5 OS, the device can handle a ridiculous amount of open applications and switch between them seamlessly. All the applications remain active during multitasking, and I have made a short clip using two accelerometer based applications, Angle Meter Touch and Level Touch (now available to download from the Ovi Store), to demonstrate this feature. Check out the video after the break.
The Nokia N86 8MP has received a minor firmware update taking it up from v20.115 to v21.006. New firmware updates generally contain bug fixes and optimizations necessary for other software to perform correctly, therefore we recommend you always keep your device up to date. You can update your device using FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) by simply typing *#0000# on your homescreen and selecting check for updates or you can also use NSU (Nokia Software Updater) and Ovi Suite. Although the Nokia N86 supports UDP (User Data Preservation), we still recommend you do a full backup to ensure you do not lose any data, especially if you’re updating using NSU.
Hope you all had a nice break and got plenty of goodies to keep you entertained over Christmas. This video demonstrates a cool little app called Snowtter – a twitter client bringing the Xmas spirit to your Nokia N900. It basically pulls out public tweets containing ”Christmas”, ”Xmas”, “Holidays” or “Snow”. Different snowflakes drop realistically with the messages which react with the accelerometer, so user can affect snowing speed/direction by rotating the device. The background image can also be changed by simply clicking it. Check out more cool apps from our Maemo 5 Download page.
Pyrecipe is a smart little Maemo 5 app that turns your N900 into a pocket cookbook. Watch the video to see how easy it is to browse your favourite recipes, create new ones and add ingredients to your shopping list. Visit our Maemo 5 Download section where you kind find more great applications.
