
A MeeGo based Nokia handset should be entering our news reels very soon, with the anticipated release of the Nokia N9 just waiting to burst out. Although the official MeeGo port for the Nokia N900 is still inconclusive, I’m sure there will be a way of making this transition for those who are willing to try a few unfamiliar things with their device. The video after the break shows MeeGo Handset UX (build 1.1.80.0.20101001.1 + updated graphics drivers from Stskeeps) on a Nokia N900. The WeTab is set to be the first device to showcase the Nokia and Intel’s MeeGo OS, and will begin shipping early next week. The WeTab is built on the MeeGo 1.0 Framework and boasts start up times of a mere 16 seconds. Global release is not yet confirmed however Germany will retain exclusivity until then.

Nokia’s recent collaboration with Intel has spawned a new era of mobile computing. With MeeGo, users will be able to take advantage of a completely open platform with spectacular UI experiences. During the Computex keynote, Intel demoed the rumoured MeeGo Tablet, which not only looks promising, but really pushes the bar higher in terms of user experience. The Quanta Redvale tablet is powered by an Intel 1.5 Ghz Moorestown processor with a 10 inch touchscreen. The UI is what’s important here, as any manufacturer will be able to design their own tablet and pack it with the MeeGo goodness, and with an SDK for application development expected to be available later in the summer, developers will be able to to churn out some fantastic software soon too. At the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing in April 2010, the new software platform MeeGo was demonstrated on a variety of Internet connected devices from a netbook to Internet TV to smartphone and digital coupon machine with RFID. MeeGo 1.0 is the first version that comes from merging Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo, so check out the videos after the jump to see what kind of things you can expect from MeeGo in the near future.
