It sure is raining firmwares, and next up to get its fix is the Nokia X6. Nokia’s most advanced Xseries device has just been bumped up to v20.0.5. Its unclear yet as to whether any new features have been implemented, however we hope that Nokia has applied kinetic scrolling within the menu screens as it did with the Nokia 5800XM in its new v50.0.005 update. The new firmware will gradually make its way round to you over the coming weeks depending on your region and product code. Skyfire today announced that they have released version 1.5 for Symbian S60 3rd and 5th Edition. Skyfire is a free alternative web browser for your mobile phone, and version 1.5 now includes full support for high-resolution screens, has a fresh user interface (UI) that is more finger friendly, produces crisper text, allows smoother zooming, and has a full- screen mode that completely maximizes screen real estate. The Nokia 5800XM is the third consecutive device to get a new firmware this week, but this time the firmware brings many new features to the Nokia device, some of which includes:

- Kinetic Scrolling
- New Home “Contacts Bar”
- QWERTY Keyboard Auto Rotation (on text input screens)
- Removed Download! (Ovi Store still available)
- Replaced “Update Application” with “SW Update” as on the Nokia N97
- Ovi Contacts
- More Responsive UI

The new firmware v40.0.005 can be installed by typing *#0000# from the dialer and then selecting ‘check for updates.’ If it is not available over-the-air, you can update via the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) or Ovi Suite on your PC. The new update should be available right now for most product codes, and even though the 5800XM supports User Data Preservation (UDP), we still recommend you make a full back up before updating your device.
