Nokia and Microsoft have today announced plans to combine assets and build a new ecosystem to challenge the existing Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platforms. This new strategic partnership will see Microsoft brings its’ Windows Phone software and brands like Bing, Office and Xbox Live, with Nokia contributing expertise on hardware optimisation, language support, customisation of the software, helping bring Windows Phone to a larger range of price points, market segments and geographies. Myriad Group AG today announced the launch of Myriad Alien Dalvik, which enables Android apps to run on non-Android platforms. Myriad Alien Dalvik will commercially become available later this year on the Meego platform, with more operating systems to follow. The first demonstration will take place next week at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona on 14th-17th February. Check out the video demo on the Nokia N900 after the break..

The Ovi Store Client for Symbian devices has recently been updated to v2.04.00038. This patch release fixes a major search bug, that previously grouped apps sharing the same metadata as versions of the same app, resulting in an inaccurate search result. Nokia today announced that it has decided to pull the plug on its Ovi Music Unlimited service in most regions due to poor uptake. It seems the service never really picked up globally, however the service that lets you eat all you can has been successful in certain regions, and therefore will continue to operate there. Ovi Music’s Adam Mirabella explains the changes in the short video after the break.
