
Nokia has finished its scheduled maintenance of the Ovi Store and has provided us with a quick update as to what changes have been made. The main focus for this update was to make it easier to browse, search and discover content, improve the quality of content reviews (e.g. change from 3 to 5 star rating system) and provide more detailed product information to help consumers decide on what to buy. WeatherBug’s Chris Brozenick demonstrates how the WeatherBug application works on the Nokia N900. WeatherBug provides instant access to local current conditions, extended forecast, radar and satellite images, severe weather alerts and more for thousands of locations around the world. Nokia is demonstrating a wide array of solutions that help consumers connect to what matters most in their world. Making its first public debut is the Nokia 5230 Nuron, available tomorrow with T-Mobile, in addition to Ovi Maps and free navigation, and the innovative creations from the finalists of the “Push N900 Mod in the USA” – contest. Featuring the creators of some of the hottest apps and content available on Ovi Store, the Nokia booth also includes gems like OpenTable and Shazam – just some of the examples of the vibrant and open Nokia ecosystem.

Mspede for Maemo has just landed on our Maemo 5 Applications page. Mspede is a game in which you must tap the lights that blink, as quickly as you can. The longer you play, the faster they blink, so you need to speed up your reflexes in order to score big. Mspede is a free game for the Nokia N900, and is available to download from our Maemo 5 Applications page. Check out the gameplay demo of Mspede after the jump.

The first turn-by-turn voice guided navigation application for Nokia’s Maemo platform is here. Sygic Mobile Maps has just become compatible with Maemo, and brings animated 3D maps to your Nokia N900. Although Ovi Maps was released with free voice guided navigation for Nokia’s Symbian devices, there has been no indication of imminent support for the Maemo platform. Sygic have timely released there solution for a very tasty price tag of €59.99 (Europe). What’s more is that Sygic’s maps are created by Navteq, an operating unit of Nokia and leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data, as is Ovi Maps. We’ll be testing this newcomer over the weekend and will feedback to you our thoughts sometime next week. But for now, check out the full list of features including the video demo after the break.

Opera Software has recently announced that both of its mobile web browsers for Symbian smartphones have been updated out of beta. Opera Mobile 10 and Opera Mini 5 are currently the best 3rd party mobile web browsing solutions available for Nokia S60 handsets, and the final version release puts all the necessary finishing touches on the Opera mobile-browsing duo. Silverlight, a cross-browser, cross-platform implementation of the .NET Framework for building media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web on desktop computers, is now officially available for Nokia S60 5th Edition devices such as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 and Nokia N97 Mini. Silverlight includes a runtime that is optimized to display content on memory-constrained devices. Silverlight support for Nokia S60 5th Edition devices includes the ability to view Silverlight applications in the mobile browser.
