Exclusive Q&A Session On The Nokia N97 PR 2.0 Firmware
by Ibrahim Jogee | Events, Firmware Updates, News
Okay, it’s true. After all the hype for the new 2.0 Firmware I am also left feeling pretty disappointed, as are many of you. Well, fear not me friends, thanks to WOMWorld I have been invited to an exclusive Q&A session with the team behind the new 2.0 Firmware to discuss various aspects of the update. The virtual Q&A session is taking place on Tuesday 3rd November at 17.30GMT, where I will be amongst Nokia representatives Frank Zillikens, the Lead Firmware Developer and Catalin Gheorghiu, a member of the technical team responsible for the 2.0 Firmware update. This session is a chance to voice your opinions and ask any questions you like. More details after the jump…
If there is anything you would like to know or ask, leave a comment below and I will try to squeeze in as many questions as I can. If there is anything you’d like me to bring up in advance, if you let me know before Tuesday I will get WOMWorld to try and weave it into their conversation too.
The discussion will revolve around the following agendas:
- How you are getting on with the device at the moment?
- Where you see the Nokia N97 going in the future?
- What do you and don’t you like about v2.0 Firmware?
- What further improvements would you like to see?
- Why certain aspects of the Firmware are as they are?
So think about these issues and get commenting below. After all, Nokia hosts these events in order to improve their quality of service, and if we don’t take part now, we will only have ourselves to blame when future projects aren’t quite up to scratch.

thank you for letting us know that you are attending this meeting….i have an n97 …the fw 2.0 actually is great…but also i have an 5800 xpresmusic…..and actually my question is….is this cellphone going to be the only s60v5 that is not going to have kinetic scrolling? because actually my n97 is my main phone but i also used my 5800 to have my personal cellphone number….and i find pretty rare from nokia not to update the phone…. if you can ask what is the status of this issue….i would appreciate it a lot….not only me but also a lot of true owners of the first s60v5 cellphone…
greetings from el salvador
When are they releasing more widgets? i hope they go the same path as apple with the apps store. Ovi is so stupid. nothing. nothin. it is so empty. also how come some of the video formats can play on the n97?
from long beach ca
i mean cant play on the n97
I use N97 to get online alot. However, N97 can not load pictures when it gets in to heavy websites (with alot of pictures). For example: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-e72-en.shtml
I have tested N82, N96, N97, 5800, none of them could display all pictures in that website. Is that RAM problem or Memory problem or web browser problem. I expected that V2.0 will help N97 handle heavy websites better. After updated my N97 to V2.0, the problem still there. Very disappoited!! Will the next firmware update fix that problem? Thank you
My questions:
- when will the photo gallery once have the feature to select certain folders (like E:\Images). It’s pretty useless to have album art and application icons in the gallery. This is partly solved with the photo browser, but the browser has less features than the gallery.
- same for the player. Let the user select the folder(s) where he has stored the music. No one needs ringtones and application sounds in the player.
- multiple homescreens: will they come? if yes, when? if no, why not?
proper flash player plugin. Please please!
Also, why no integrated hmtl email program? Nokia messaging is great but without full integration (aural alerts but no visual alerts means many missed emails) which negates the push email function as you still need to check for mail.

another one:
make it possible to send contacts (also MORE than one) over bluetooth. atm it is not possible to send anything from the contacts app.
This is suppose to be a social phone designed for text messaging so where are the SMILEYS, where are the sports widgets and flash player support?
Why the speakerphone call breaks when the normal mode works fine, is it any software issues?
When I use a app like games with music player the music stutters?
Why there is no chat features in facebook app and why it is not unstable?
can they change the screen display (ie) it is ugly to see a half black background when unknown person calls?
In landscape mode, why cant they change the position of option & back/close buttons from rightside to bottom(bcoz it consumes more space) ?
Why there is no different transition effect?
Thx
I’d like to know why Nokia insist on putting apps on their phones that require a payment before they become useable, and cannot be removed by people who have paid 500 quid for an unbranded phone! When I purchase an unbranded phone, the only software I expect to see on it a are fully functional, working applications, or trail versions that I can delete if I find them trivial or useless to me, not advertisers bloatware, that reminds me how far Nokia have fallen over the previous few years, every time i see the unremovable icon on the menu screen!

and another one:
When the N97 has the message storage set to E: and is connected in mass storage mode, E: should after disconnect be reassigned as storage place by the system, not by the user!
